#67 - Skin Edit - Bellflower Heartleaf Houttuynia Serum [Review]

So about time I review this serum. I’ve had it on my hand and used it pretty much everyday for at least 4 weeks straight! Massive thank you to Bellflower gifting this to me to review.

The What:

The serum, although t says intensive, is actually a relatively thin serum. This product is made up of Houttuynia Cordata Extract, which is a medicinal herb (I’ve not consumed this as food before). I’ve not found too much on the effects on the skin elsewhere; the Bellflower site gives a brief description about this ingredient, which is basically regulating skin/oil balance, sebum control and help with boosting moisture. There is also centella asiatica, which is great for its calming and healing qualities.l

This serum is great for acne prone skin and my oily skin peeps. The calming qualities and how it helps with boosting/maintaining moisture plays a big part for oily skin, especially when dehyrated. This is meant to help the skin combat environmental stress and unclog unnecessary sebum and generally make the skin appear brighter.

It also highlights rosemary leaf oil within the ingredients that help give skin radiance and maintain elasticity, as well as help with environmental stress.

The texture is light but not completely watery - it feels a little oily but doesn’t remain as soon as the serum is absorbed by the skin, which pretty quickly. There isn’t a scent in this and it’s non-sticky, true to their description on the website.

The Thoughts:

IMO this is a preventative, restorative and a serum that you need to use everyday to see improvements. It doesn’t do much with lightening/radiance, but it does do a good job with calming the skin. This was my go-to AM serum for a while because my skin was dehydrating and complement this with toner and sunscreen, it makes a good base for makeup. The most wonderful thing is that even though it is a little oily it doesn’t feel oily when it is absorbed at all. There is no stickiness and it just soaks in the skin well.

It’s a very comfortable product to use and I would happily have this as part of a daily routine to help with sensitive skin and generally calming it down. I’ve used this in less hot months so interested to see how it will perform in even warmer weather.

I didn’t see a massive difference but I think products like this improve your skin over time. It’s hard to see how it combats environmental stress but I have noticed that there is less redness in the skin through the day. I like to use this after exfoliation as well, especially if using a chemical exfoliant, to calm the skin back down (along with a propolis serum too).

The Verdict:

I may or may not have picked a product that is hard to review, but all in all I enjoyed using it and to be fair this product will last a while. I used this everyday AM for over 4 weeks, generously may I add (they suggest a few drops but I went ham). It’s a good workhouse product I think and would be particularly comfortable to use for people with sensitive or oily and dehydrated skin.

Bellflower make other serums and I would definitely check them out - they all seem to do different things. The products are consistent in not having a lot of ingredients - just the ones that matter.
